ESFJ

I found out I was an ESFJ (aka Caregiver) back in college when I took an Emotional Intelligence class and have been a consistent ESFJ ever since. Now some of you might be thinking "what does she mean she is an ESFJ"? Well, that's my personality type! ESFJ stands for Extroverted, Sensing, Feeling and Judging and is one of 15 other personality types. The 16 personality types which have been found are based on the well-known research of Carl Jung, Katharine Briggs, and Isabel Briggs Myers. I would highly recommend doing a Google search for more information on the background of these individuals and how personality types were determined because it is very interesting. Because my time is limited this morning, I'll let you do that on your own--so for now, I'd like to tell you a little more about being an ESFJ (much of the information was gathered from here).

ESFJs are people persons--they love people. They are warmly interested in others. They use their Sensing and Judging characteristics to gather specific, detailed information about others, and turn this information into supportive judgments. These types of individuals have a strong desire to be liked and for everything to be pleasant makes ESFJs highly supportive of others. People tend to like to be around ESFJs, because they have a special gift of invariably making others feel good about about themselves.

The ESFJ takes their responsibilities very seriously, and are very dependable. They value security and stability, and have a strong focus on the details of life. They usually see before others what needs to be done, and do whatever it takes to make sure the tasks at hand gets done. They enjoy these types of tasks, and are extremely good at them.

ESFJs are very warm and energetic. At times, these individuals need approval from others to feel good about themselves. They are hurt by indifference and on't always understand unkindness. They are very giving people, who get a lot of their personal satisfaction from the happiness of others. They want to be appreciated for who they are, and what they give.

The ESFJ's value system is defined externally. They usually have very well-formed ideas about the way things should be, and are not shy about expressing these opinions. These individuals at their best can be summarized as warm, sympathetic, helpful, cooperative, tactful, practical, thorough, consistent, organized, enthusiastic, and energetic. They enjoy tradition and security, and will seek stable lives that are rich in contact with friends and family.

I can easily say that I agree 100% that I am an ESFJ and proud of it! Not only is it good to know what your personality type is, it's very helpful in relationships and the workplace. Find out what type you are by taking the free Jung Typology Test.
